More Of This, Please!

Just ignore the bleeding hearts who'll squeal about 'human rights':
Town hall chiefs are using Kiaran Stapleton’s murder conviction to help kick his parents out of their home.
The M.E.N told yesterday how Salford town hall has applied to evict the killer’s mum Billie-Jean and dad Tony from their council house.
It was claimed the Stapleton family have ‘made life a misery’ for their neighbours around Regent Square in Ordsall.
A possession notice against the Stapletons has now revealed the criminal convictions that council bosses are relying on to prove their case.
No, it's not just his convictions, either:
But the council have also listed a criminal conviction against his mum Billie-Jean Stapleton as part of the reasons for evicting the family.
The possession notice says: “On April 27, 2011 until October 27, 2011, you permitted the use of premises (on Regent Square, Ordsall) for use of smoking cannabis. You received a 12 month conditional discharge and were ordered to pay £85 costs.”
Yes, I'm sure there will be people who will complain that this is too harsh.

To which I say 'You live next door to them, then. Don't expect decent people to..'

"...and hear the lamentation of the women."

Hey, Conan was right!
The family broke down and wept in the dock, except for William, who stood stoney faced.
Mary, also known as Breda, screamed uncontrollably and frantically pulled her hair as the first verdict, against her husband was read out.
"Oh daddy! Oh daddy!" she yelled. "Mind the children. Why are you doing this? I have never done anything to anyone in all my life."
Six security staff struggled to maintain order while the verdicts were read out. One security guard was injured as family members leapt to their feet and Gloucestershire Police officers in the front row helped eject family members from the public gallery.
Extra security guards rushed into court to physically remove relatives.
John Connors' wife was carried from the court after trying to climb out of the public gallery into the dock. As she left, she wailed: "Please, please, I'm asking you no. Don't do this."
Miles Connors' wife was also carried screaming from the court.
Who said we had abolished slavery in England?

A Coroner With Cojones!

The hearing heard about a series of violent incidents, including assaults and a hit-and-run, which North Staffordshire Coroner Ian Smith condemned as "stupid drunken criminality".
Mr Smith ruled Mr Ellahi, who he said was "no stranger" to the criminal courts himself, had been a "willing participant" in the brawl which cost him his life.
Wow!

Not afraid to stand up in the face of 'community pressure':
A charge of manslaughter brought against Munro was dropped following the unrelated death of a key witness.
This left members of the Asian community, including Mr Ellahi's family, angry that justice had not been done.
And not afraid to simply sit there while partisan witnesses get their story in first, either:
The inquest heard a number of differing accounts of the fight.
While memories may be less than perfect after two-and-a-half years, Mr Smith said some witnesses had been "unreliable and unconvincing".
We need more coroners like this!

This Is Why You Don't Bring A Knife To A Gunfight...

On the video, Moody is heard shouting: 'Drop the knife now!' and 'Hands up! Hands up, Ernie! Don't you move, Ernie, don't you move or I'll shoot you!'
Ernie didn't listen. Ernie is no more...

Cue anguished relatives and ambulance chasing lawyers!
The attorney said he has asked the U.S. Justice Department to open an investigation and pursue murder charges against 40-year-old Moody.
'We have communicated to the Department of Justice that this man should be prosecuted for murder,' Burris said.
'He should be held accountable just like anyone else would be held accountable when they engage in this kind of barbaric conduct.'
Although, when we are considering the subject of 'barbaric conduct', it has to be said, Ernie was no choirboy. They never are, are they?
In the report, the district attorney said Duenez was a gang member who served three prison sentences for drug, stolen vehicle and assault with a deadly weapon charges. Burris added that the man was in violation of his parole.
And the police rolled up on a domestic violence call.
The graphic video has been posted on a Facebook group, Justice for Ernest Duenez, adding: 'We once again ask for your help in seeking justice! We need a public outcry!'
Looks to me as if justice was served.

I Think Now He’ll Have To Be Dubbed ‘Muppet Mike’…

A bungling robber dubbed ‘Murder Mike’ was jailed for 30 years today for accidentally shooting his accomplice as they tried to steal a cache of fake Rolex watches.
Yup, you read it right - fake Rolexes…

That little wrinkle didn't make it into the initial reports, did it?
In fact, the three Submariner watches had been bought over the internet for £118 each by intended victim Jordaan Williams to dupe unsuspecting buyers.
*chuckles*
In a statement read to the court, Mr Barnes’ mother and father, Judith and Douglas, said: ‘The senseless killing of our son has been like a bad nightmare.’
Mmm, I expect it was a bit of an experience for Mr Williams, too.

But then, since he was also a would-be villain… Bah! A plague on all your houses!

An End To Compo Culture At Last?

Mrs Fari said she was due £740,000 for an injury so severe she needed on-going care. The judge said the figure was nearer £1,500 for a minor injury that would cause her three months’ discomfort.
Ouch! It gets worse…
Undercover surveillance was carried out and it was discovered that Ms Fari had a pre-existing deformity in her knee. The judge was so angry she now faces the prospect of prosecution for contempt of court and a prison sentence.
This is because of a recent landmark case, which – hopefully – could well spell the end to the notorious compo culture:
Judge Christopher Mitchell struck out her entire claim for damages at Central London county court so she will not get a penny. He said she had attempted to deceive his court by wildly overstating the suffering caused and that the scale of exaggeration involved in her claim amounted to an abuse of process.
He has referred the case to the High Court which may allow contempt of court proceedings to be brought against Ms Fari.
And, if the defendant’s lawyers have anything to say about it, that’s just the start:
Jennifer Harris, a solicitor at Plexus Law who represented Homes for Haringey, said the judge’s verdict should be a warning to other potential fraudsters seeking to make exaggerated compensation claims.
She said: “This is a significant success in the fight against fraudulent and exaggerated claims and sends a strong message that genuinely injured claimants and their representatives should not attempt to exaggerate the extent of injuries.
“This is one of the first cases to follow the principles established in Summers v Fairclough Homes and confirms that a grossly exaggerated claim can amount to an abuse of process significant enough to warrant striking out in its entirety a claimant’s case.”
Of course, there’s outrage on the part of the claimant, strangely only articulated by her mother. Perhaps she herself is a bit too busy with her huge brood to comment...
Ms Fari’s mother defended her daughter, telling the Standard she had told the truth about the extent of her injuries.
Speaking at the family home in Haringey she said: “My daughter told the truth in court and was made to look a liar. It is disgusting, there has been no justice, she does not deserve this.”
If not her, who?
Ms Fari has 21 days to appeal against the judge’s decision. If she fails to do so, or if her appeal fails, the Attorney General can opt to prosecute her for contempt of court.
If he decides not to, lawyers for Homes for Haringey are expected to bring their own High Court action.
