It's 'Guess The Music Genre'..!

A nightclub has been ordered to close after a man was blasted in the leg with a shotgun.
The man, understood to be either a doorman or his friend, was attacked outside Thread, in Yeoman Street, Leicester city centre, early yesterday.
Hmmm....

Soul? Easy listening? A little country and western, maybe?
The venue, formerly Houston's, was hosting a hip hop, R'n'B and house event called the Boxing Day Banger.
Ah. Of course.

And What Do You Think Now, Magistrates?

A mum who admitted screaming at an Indian to go back to her own country and being drunk in charge of a child was praised by magistrates for getting her life back on track.
Kelly Kociela, 31, abused an Indian member of staff at Sainsbury's Local on the corner of Longmead Avenue and Gloucester Road before being stopped by police during the afternoon while swigging from a can of lager with her children , six and ten, in tow.
Lovely, I'm sure you'll agree.
Magistrates told her: "Normally we would be looking at probation intervention. However we do see that you are making sterling efforts to get your life back on track and engaging with agencies that can help you."
That was back in March. And since then?
A mother who turned up at her children's school while drunk has been banned from the premises after she bit the deputy headteacher on the arm.
Kelly Kociela appeared 'emotional and slurring' when she turned up at Filton Avenue Junior and Infant School, in Bristol, where she demanded to take her two youngsters from a club. She then became abusive to staff in a 30 minute ordeal during which she bit teacher Matthew Cox, Bristol magistrates heard.
Shocker, I'm sure you'll agree...
The court heard she had previous convictions for being drunk in charge of a child in 2005, 2006, 2007 and this year and she will be sentenced on January 17.
Magistrates bailed her on condition she complies with an existing Bristol City Council restraining order banning her from the school.
Because she did such a sterling job of obeying the last one!

More Of This, Please!

Just ignore the bleeding hearts who'll squeal about 'human rights':
Town hall chiefs are using Kiaran Stapleton’s murder conviction to help kick his parents out of their home.
The M.E.N told yesterday how Salford town hall has applied to evict the killer’s mum Billie-Jean and dad Tony from their council house.
It was claimed the Stapleton family have ‘made life a misery’ for their neighbours around Regent Square in Ordsall.
A possession notice against the Stapletons has now revealed the criminal convictions that council bosses are relying on to prove their case.
No, it's not just his convictions, either:
But the council have also listed a criminal conviction against his mum Billie-Jean Stapleton as part of the reasons for evicting the family.
The possession notice says: “On April 27, 2011 until October 27, 2011, you permitted the use of premises (on Regent Square, Ordsall) for use of smoking cannabis. You received a 12 month conditional discharge and were ordered to pay £85 costs.”
Yes, I'm sure there will be people who will complain that this is too harsh.

To which I say 'You live next door to them, then. Don't expect decent people to..'

Maybe Some Pubs Deserve To Close...

...and not due to the smoking ban or the increase in supermarket alcohol availability, either:
The three, said to have been drunk when they committed the offence, have now been given community sentences at Bridlington Magistrates' Court.
Katya Mira, of the RSPCA said: "This was a senseless and sickening attack on some defenseless animals who have done nothing wrong.
"We hope the fact these people were brought to justice sends out a very strong message to others that violence and cruelty to animals is unacceptable and against the law."
Gosh, yes! A 'community punishment'. Ah, if only that meant the community got a chance to come visit them while they spent time in the stocks...

So who are these fine upstanding members of the community?
Daniel Thomas Hall, 21, of Church Lane, Flamborough, Robert Lee, 18, of Lighthouse Road, Flamborough, and Daniel Alan Wood, 18, of the Dog and Duck in Flamborough, all pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal when they appeared at Bridlington Magistrates' Court.
The 'Dog and Duck'..? You're kidding me!
But Daniel Wood's father, David Wood, landlord of the Dog and Duck, said it had been little more than a prank.
He said: "They had just been out drinking. It was just a stupid prank, it wasn't a big thing.
"Daniel is back at sea fishing. It's all behind him now."
Really? Well, the locals and regulars can decide that, can't they?

And sea fishing is a dangerous business in winter....

Nothing 'Complex' Or 'Unusual' About It...

Remember this story?
Six police officers were treated in hospital after diving into a river in a bid to rescue five occupants of a car which had crashed into the water.
...
Police said the six officers dived into the River Avon in a bid to save the silver BMW's occupants after it crashed into the water today.
Two other women were being interviewed as witnesses in what the Fire Service described as a "complex" and "unusual" incident.
Oh, really? Well, now the court case is over, we can see just what was so 'complex and unusual' about it:
A drink-driver who careered off a city centre bridge, killing a young mum, had been driving with no licence or insurance for 13 years.
A court heard Shennie Jaffer had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his breath when tested, nearly three hours after losing control of his BMW car in Passage Street and plunging into the Floating Harbour.
Bristol Crown Court heard Jaffer, of Robertson Road, Easton, had been showing off and refused to slow down or stop even though his terrified passengers – who included his pregnant girlfriend – pleaded with him before the accident at 4am on October 20
....
Jaffer dived into the water several times but his frantic efforts to free her failed and she drowned.
The court heard the 31-year-old then went home, where police later found him and his girlfriend, next to wet clothes. Disoriented Jaffer initially told them they were "corrupt" in targeting him, before saying: "I tried to help her."
...
He had previous convictions for failing to stop after an accident in 2004, when he was banned for a year, and failing to provide a breath specimen in 2009, when he was banned for two years.
Nothing too unusual there. Nothing too unusual about the defence's laughable attempts, either:
Mr Rose said eventually his client walked away in shock and was found at home, disorientated, with his wet clothes beside him.
He said: "That disorientation was more than mere alcohol.
"When first spoken to he was aggressive and defensive. But he admitted matters regarding him driving in the police station.
"He was exuberant that night, in an excess of high spirits. Now he is very subdued, quiet and thoughtful and inevitably affected by it."
Yes, clearly, he's the victim. OK, maybe the punishment from the justice system is the 'complex and unusual' part?
Jaffer was jailed for six years and eight months yesterday...
Nope. Guess not.

There Are 18 Words That Guarantee A Fun Read In A Local Paper...

And those are "Following the death, friends of Mr Williams took to social network site Facebook to pay tribute to him."

Let's hear it, then:
Gemma Squires wrote: "Can't believe your gone.. It doesn't seem real.. R.I.P BIG Cuz.. Gone but never guna b forgotten Love u Always xxxxxxxx."
Jayne 'ebinx' Davies said: "Not sure what to say, you were a big man with a huge heart. Had many laughs n lots of drunken silly times with you. kept expecting to see you out on Sat, it's still such a shock. Hope you're having a blast up there the boys R.I.P Ginge. Gone but never forgotten. xxx."
And the tragic occasion that cut down the life of this potential future brain surgeon?
The man killed in a Swansea Valley car crash was driving a stolen car, police have confirmed.
Andrew Williams, from Clase, died in the collision near Ystradgynlais just after 8am on Saturday.
The 29-year-old was the sole occupant of a silver Honda Civic which left the road and hit a tree near the All Black Arms.
My tiny violin is going to get no airing today...

Well, Don't Be Too Hard On Her...

To the family of the grandmother she killed while texting at the wheel of her car, it could not have been more insensitive.
They had come to court hoping to see Nikita Ainley show some remorse – and not a little humility – at her sentencing over the death of Mary Rutherford.
Instead, they looked on as the 20-year-old arrived tapping away on her phone.

...after all, maybe she was checking in with her 'Weightwatchers' app..?

She got three and a half years. Hope she likes prison young offenders unit food.

Maybe It's Time It Cost The Police Money Instead..?

The incident ended shortly before midday when the pair gave themselves up.
However, by that point, it had cost businesses in the town thousands of pounds in lost trade.
Mr Scott said: “Grantham town centre had to be shut. A lot of businesses lost revenue.
Thirty businesses in total were closed, with a loss of sales of between £25,000 and £30,000.”
And why did it 'have to be shut'?

Well...
Mr Scott said “Hanes and Neve refused to come down. The stand-off between these two and the police lasted about six hours.
“The police were forced to close down the centre of Grantham because missiles were being thrown off the roof.
“Neve was almost entirely passive throughout the stand-off. He was not seen to throw anything.
“Hanes was argumentative and aggressive shouting threats to the police. At one point he threw coins at the police and he was also throwing roof tiles at parked cars.
“In some sort of defiant gesture he pulled a number of bank notes from his pocket and tossed them in the air.”
All because, when these 'sieges' develop, the police immediately go into 'hands off', containment mode and wait for the situation to play itself out without injury to the poor little criminal darlings.

And why not? They know they aren't liable for the losses, so why should they care?

But maybe if they were to be made accountable, these sieges would be resolved a lot quicker. And that, surely  is good for everybody?

So, She Has Some Standards then...

...I mean, letting her 14 year old daughter try for a baby with a 16 year old who has previous convictions for dishonesty, theft, handling stolen goods, non dwelling burglary and shop lifting, and who is 'not socially aware' and of 'extremely low intelligence' is one thing.

But when you find out he isn't 16 at all, well!
Kenneth Bell, prosecuting, said the girl was 14 and Rudge was 18 when they had a sexual relationship.
He said "In March Mr Rudge was introduced to "the girl's" mother as her boyfriend.
"He said he was 16 but the mother found out he was 18.
"She became concerned and informed Social Services.
"She tried to stop the relationship to no avail and the police became involved."
Mother of the year, I think you'll agree?

Pardon?

Matthew Gent, mitigating, said the resident was often difficult, but Molineuax should have “backed off and let the situation cool down”.
He told the judge that his client had worked for 20 years in the care industry, often for little reward, and added: “It was her vacation . . . her life.”
Hopefully that should have been 'vocation'? Or maybe beating up elderly dementia sufferers really is a holiday for some people?

But....Why?

Burnley Crown Court heard how HGV driver Timothy Bolchover, 26, had been barred from the Duke of Wellington in Great Harwood, which had then been his ‘local’, the night before.
But he then returned and demanded landlady Nadine Davies serve him.
I guess he doesn't know when 'Yer barred!' means exactly that...
Victim Mark Eccles, who was outside the premises chatting to Ms Davies, a friend of his, stepped between them as Bolchover was aggressive and the landlady thought she was going to be attacked.
The defendant tried to get past him, the victim told him Ms Davies didn't want him there and was punched in the eye by Bolchover.
It's really no wonder he was barred!
Ken Hind, defending, said Bolchover had been drinking and was out without his long- term partner. He thought the landlady would let him in.
I can't imagine why!
The defendant, of Stevenson Street West, Accrington, had admitted assault causing actual bodily harm, on July 31, last year.
He was given 10 months in jail, suspended for 18 months, with 150 hours unpaid work and must pay £250 compensation.
*sighs*

A Bit Of Consistency Would Be Nice…

A man has been banned from keeping dogs for 10 years after his dog launched a savage attack on another dog that was "worse then a horror film".
Horrified people at the scene desperately tried to pull the Staffordshire bull terrier off its victim – but its jaws were clamped so tightly around the other dog's neck, it took three sedative injections before its teeth could finally be forced open.
Injections? Surely it would have only taken one good hard blow with a hammer?
Clint Chambers, mitigating, said Brown agreed to have the dog put down shortly after the incident.
He had owned the dog for only about two weeks before the attack but, in that time, there had been two earlier incidents involving other dogs, including one when Tyson had bitten another dog.
And that didn’t worry him?
On the latest occasion, Brown allowed the dog off his lead and Tyson ran around the corner.
Brown assumed the dog was running back home and claimed he had not been warned by the previous owner about Tyson's behaviour.
So? He’d seen two incidents in the two short weeks he’d owned it!

Oh, and what did he do while passers-by and a vet were trying to help? The usual, for these types. Nothing:
"Everything was happening too fast for him," said Mr Chambers. Brown "froze"...
Yes. While the other people desperately tried to get the attacking dog away for long enough for a vet to be called. That’s one long, long freeze!
Unemployed Brown, who had no previous convictions, was given an eight-week 7pm to 7am curfew and was ordered to pay £132.47 compensation for vet's bills and £85 costs.
In other words, we’ll be paying it. As always.

At least in Grimsby, they do take it seriously enough for court action. Meanwhile, in Reading, nothing at all happens:
A pensioner is warning people in the Oxford Road area to be on their guard against a dog which savaged his mongrel. The 75-year-old was walking his three-year-old dog when a Staffordshire bull terrier which was off its lead attacked his pet.
He was left with a £200 vet bill but has been told there is little the police or the RSPCA can do.
Really? And why not? The owner seems to be the same useless type as the first:
Samuel said: “The woman let the staffie off the lead and it made a beeline for my dog and attacked him. It bit him severely and I spent a good 15 minutes trying to separate them. When it got hold of my dog the woman said, ‘that’s what staffies do’. She was just watching and did nothing to help.
Maybe the suggestion kiddies might be at risk and the dog isn’t the ‘normal’ type might move them?
Samuel is concerned the attack happened close to Norcot Nursery. He said: “What I'm really worried about is that that dog didn’t look right to me – it looked as if it was something more than a staffie.”
Samuel reported the incident to the police but was told there was little they could do about a dog-on-dog attack. The RSPCA said it was unable to take any action if the police did not.
Oh. Guess not.

But in Kidderminster, they take tree-savaging seriously, never mind animal-savaging!
Wyre Forest District Council understands owners are training their dogs to fight in St George’s Park by making them attack the bases of trees which is destroying the bark. It appears to be mainly Staffordshire Bull Terriers which are causing the damage and local residents are being urged to contact the police with any information.
Eh? Surely they will fob you off? After all, if they aren’t concerned with dog-eat-dog, dog-eat-tree must be waaaaay down on the list?
Residents are being urged to contact West Mercia Police on 101, quoting the incident reference number 112/S/141112. Any information about owner’s size, clothes, hair colour, ethnicity and the colour of the dog would be appreciated.
I guess not.

Now, I'm all for localism, but this is just ridiculous! Surely we need some consistency, to prevent this postcode lottery of police action versus inaction?

Remember The Wise Words Of Larry Flynt…

Yes, I know he was talking about the US Constitution, but the principle’s the same:
A homeowner who sliced off part of a man's face with a Samurai sword as he fought off an attack on his own doorstep has been spared jail.
No, he’s not a fine, upstanding citizen himself:
Wilson, 36, grabbed an ornamental Samurai sword from his wall to protect himself after his ex-girlfriend called to say her jealous new boyfriend Craig Ogilvie was coming to assault him.
Hull Crown Court heard Mr Ogilvie had been drinking and had become jealous when Wilson had sent his former partner a text message about their child.
So unlike the homelife of our own dear Queen, eh?
Wilson's barrister John Thackray told the court: "One questions whether the Government's proposed policy of being more flexible would have come into force here.
"But he accepts the way the law stands at the moment."
Well, indeed! Is he not entitled to defend his home? Even hardened criminals should be, surely? A jury once thought so!
Judge Michael Mettyear said: "At first blush, it is a case where you were out by your house with a Samurai sword and the victim suffered unpleasant injuries as a result.
"If that was just the circumstances, then a substantial sentence would be called for which would involve you going to prison straight away.
"But it is not that straightforward because the victim was there at your home to beat you up."
But still, the CPS decided that this was a case ‘in the public interest’. Why, god only knows:
He said: "You had been notified that he was coming to beat you up, you knew something about him and were frightened of him and you were, to a degree, in a difficult position.
"You going out with a Samurai sword was bound to cause problems and make things worse and it did. "
It only made it ‘worse’ for the aggressor. I can’t see how that’s a bad thing, frankly…
Judge Mettyear said Wilson should have locked the door, secured his home and called the police for help instead of arming himself with the sword.
He said: "Your real criminality is not deliberately inflicting injuries but having put yourself in a position by being outside with a sword in your hand."
Yes, he should have trusted to the police. After all, when seconds count, they’re only minutes away.

Let’s Hope His Children Never Get Backache…

His defending solicitor Mark Brown said McCaw had previously sought veterinary help, for Cheech.
On the night he was killed, Cheech jumped off the settee and appeared to be in pain. McCaw had given it half a paracetamol tablet in the past, but on this night, the dog snapped and bit him, said Mr Brown.
Sadly, the animal is no longer around, or it’d surely need vetinary treatment for food poisoning…
In what Mr Brown described as “quite a set of shocking circumstances”, he said that McCaw initially attempted to smother the dog, but it didn’t work, so he decided to stab it.
“The next morning, the children came down, but couldn’t find the dog. He told them it had died and had gone to doggy heaven.
“He didn’t even tell his partner and that appeared to be that. Then two days later the inspectors came knocking.”
And his ‘punishment’?
Jailing him for 18-weeks, magistrates’ also banned him from keeping animals for 20 years.
The kids..? Oh, I guess he can keep them.

Well, Perhaps If You Did More About It, Rather Than Taking The Easy Way Out?

A surge in the popularity of so-called status pets has left Sussex facing its toughest fight against dangerous dogs. Sussex Police’s dog unit has already seized 48 potentially deadly animals in 2012 – up from 16 in 2011 and 29 in 2010.
The rise is largely being put down a rise in the popularity of status dogs such as pit bulls and Staffordshire bull terriers.
Cue police spokesmen bemoaning this state of affairs to local newshound:
Police dog handler PC Will Durant said: “It’s the worst it has ever been – the last year or so has been terrible.
“People having these status dogs appears to be the main problem but there is also a great deal of ignorance on behalf of many owners.”
Gosh, we need someone to do something about it, clearly.

Some sort of…uniformed force…who could deal with dangerous situations? Hmmm. Where are we going to find such people?
Inspector Diane Lewis, the force’s senior dog officer, said: “Some of the dogs we get called to deal with are crazed.
“People need to think about the type of dog they are getting and be sure that the breed is suitable.
“We would encourage people to go to puppy training and socialise their dog as much as possible. ”
These people don’t ‘socialise’ their children! What on earth makes you think they will do a better job with their pets?

Meanwhile, the attacks continue, and so long as they are on other animals, the police shrug and say ‘Nuffin’ to do wiv us, innit?’
Shaken dog owner says it was "like a scene from a horror film" after her cocker spaniel was pounced on and mauled by two Staffordshire Terriers. Valerie Gambier, of Claremont Gardens, has sent out a warning to other dog walkers after the attack on Remembrance Sunday in Gossmore Park.
She’s had to ‘send out a warning’ because…well, you can guess why, can’t you?
Thames Valley Police have issued the owner of the offending animals with an adult restorative disposal - a form of caution or reprimand for low level crime. However, due to the fact no people were involved and it was a dog on dog attack it is not considered a case of an animal dangerously out of control, police said.
Police said disposals such as that issued to the Staffordshire Terriers' owner were introduced to deal with offenders without bringing them into the Criminal Justice system and allow the victim to say what they would like to happen - often just acceptance of wrongdoing and an apology.
Well, I rather doubt it in this case, because the lady’s out of pocket:
Mrs Gambier had paid £75 for vets bills by Wednesday but was expecting to pay more.
And no doubt the police will whine that she should pursue a civil case for reimbursement. And will continue to wonder why the public doesn't support them any more.

Yes, These Are The People We Want Breeding Part 458

Lee Hammond, for Dyson, said he had tried to take his life in the past few months and was on medication for depression. From an early age, he had witnessed his heroin addict mother taking drugs, he had been in care for many years and his upbringing had been dysfunctional.
And yet, despite that, he’s proved to be quite the stud:
Dyson, who has just become a dad after his ex-girlfriend gave birth…
Imagine what the mother must be like, if this is ideal Alpha Male material..?

So…what did he get?
…was given a 12-month community order, with supervision and the Thinking Skills programme. He must pay £100 compensation and £40 costs.
*sighs*

This Must Be The ‘Farscape’ Version Of A Peacekeeper?

Mrs Turner said Gray had “tried to act as peacekeeper and tried to prevent this incident escalating”, but admitted “it was a reckless assault”.
So…just how did this fragrant flower of femininity attempt to ‘keep the peace’..?
She appeared alongside Lorraine Ann Edwards, 30, of Ordnance Lane, who was charged with affray following an incident at the Black Bull pub in Hull Road on August 19 last year.
Mr Barker told the court Edwards had argued with her ex-partner, Christopher Edwards, over the phone while he was in the pub, and she and Gray, who had both been drinking, went to face him in person.
The court heard an argument ensued, before Edwards punched the victim repeatedly. The court heard Gray, who was holding a broken glass, had lashed out at Mr Edwards, causing a cut to his neck which needed stitches.
The fight then continued in the car park, with Lorraine Edwards also assaulting a woman who came to the victim’s assistance.
Ah. OK. Well. That’s not how I’d have done it, but…

Oh, wait. We’re not quite finished:
Michelle Gray, 37, of Speculation Street, York, pleaded guilty at York Crown Court to charges of affray and possession of a bladed weapon.
Nicholas Barker, prosecuting, told the court Gray had woken residents of Constantine Avenue, Tang Hall, by shouting in the street at about 12.45am, and when a 35-week pregnant neighbour asked her to keep the noise down, she responded by insulting the woman, and said: “I’m going to get you when you have your baby” .
The court heard Gray also threatened two men who approached her in the street during the incident in March, telling one: “I’ll cut your throat”, and the other: “ I'm going to maim you”, before she lashed out with a kitchen knife and stabbed one of them in the thigh.
When she was arrested, Gray told police: “I admit I did it,” and: “He deserved what he got, end of” .
Lovely, I'm sure you’ll agree.
Taryn Turner, mitigating, said Gray was “a woman who is capable of controlling her anger, tackling her demons, and learning to cope with mental health issues she undoubtedly has”.
I've no doubt she is, but it seems she has little desire to do so, doesn’t it?

I Think ‘Our Children’ Deserve Proper Names. Where Do I Send My Petition?

A Thornton Heath mum has demanded that the council replace "inadequate" kitchen facilities that she says have left pupils at one of Croydon's biggest primary schools going hungry.
It appears a leaking roof has closed the kitchen while repairs are made.

Are children really ‘going hungry’ as a result?

No. Of course not.
Pupils will be fed sandwiches while the cooking facilities are closed.
So…what’s the problem? Well, it’s the same old culprit once again; parents who think it's the job of the state to feed their spawn:
But Donna, a parent governor at the school, said children had complained of being hungry last time the kitchen shut.
She said: "There are a lot of children whose school meal is their only hot meal of the day. They are not getting a hot meal at home and they are not getting one at school.
"Those kids are going hungry. It is not good enough."
Now Donna - whose daughters Rickela, 11, Tashwana, 10, and Lyneeka, eight…
*speechless*
… all attend Winterbourne Junior Girls' - has now launched a petition calling for councillors to replace the pod and pay for a permanent kitchen to be built on-site.
She has collected over 400 signatures so far. "I don't see why they can't give us a satisfactory kitchen," said Donna.
"The pod is inadequate and I don't think it is fair. I think our children deserve a kitchen and a canteen that is fit for purpose."
*still speechless*

Oh, Yes It IS ‘Appropriate'!

Emma Gregory, 20, was handed a suspended jail term for allowing her dog, Tia, to maul the boy as he walked home from school with his mother.
I told you her and her ilk were winning, didn't I?
Both Tia and Gregory’s other pit bull-type dog, Mia, who have been housed in kennels at a cost of more than £3,000 since the attack, will now be put down.
Well, two troublesome bitches down, anyway. Gregory, sadly, is set to live a lot longer and cost us a lot, lot more…
Judge Robert Crawford said a compensation order towards the victim was ‘not appropriate’ as Gregory is the single mother of an 18-month-old boy and lives on benefits.
And yet, amazingly, she managed to buy and feed two large ‘pets’. And I guess she doesn't have any personal possessions other than the clothes on her back, eh?

*muses*

Does she need both kidneys?
